The plan for a year lies in spring, and youth is the most important stage for diligent study and hard work. As young students of the new era, we should cherish our time and study diligently, so as not to regret wasted youth in the future. Today, my speech under the national flag is titled: Study Hard and Set Ambitions.
Throughout Chinese history, those who have achieved remarkable success in various fields—whether wise statesmen, strategic military leaders, insightful thinkers, or outstanding scientists—have all shared one common reason for their achievements: they valued time, studied diligently, set clear goals, and persevered.
It is clear that achievement is closely connected with diligence and ambition. No matter one’s background or talent, success requires a solid foundation of knowledge, which can only be gained through hard work and dedicated study.
Diligence is not only about making good use of time for reading and practice, but also about active thinking and reflection. As Confucius said, “Learning without thinking leads to confusion; thinking without learning leads to danger.” Without reflection, learning becomes ineffective; without study, thinking becomes empty. Therefore, we must summarize experiences and improve through both learning and thinking. True diligence comes from combining hard work with smart learning.
Diligence also means developing a love for learning. As the saying goes, “There is a way to climb the mountain of books through hard work,” and it can also be understood as finding joy in learning. Only when knowledge truly enters our hearts can we experience the joy of learning and the transformation from hardship to fulfillment.
“Without ambition, nothing can be achieved in the world.” This shows that diligence and ambition are equally important. Therefore, our school has designated this month as an inspiration month to encourage students to study hard and pursue their dreams.
Today, we enjoy far better learning conditions than our predecessors, no longer needing to read by fireflies or write on makeshift materials. However, their spirit of diligence and determination is still worth inheriting and carrying forward.
At this crucial stage of learning, we should maintain good physical and mental health, concentrate in class, make full use of study time, stay focused, and work steadily toward our goals.
“A young person who does not study diligently will regret it when old,” and “If one does not work hard in youth, one will regret it in old age.” Dear students, for your dreams and future, calm your restless hearts and study hard!
