16. Do not dwell on what others say behind your back, whether it be gossip or outright attacks. Greatness lies in composure. Learn to tell yourself: if these words satisfy others, I will accept them, but please believe that those who truly understand you will never negate your worth because of such baseless claims!
17. Looking back, I suddenly realized that much of my life's effort was merely to satisfy those around me. To earn the praise and smiles of others, I tremblingly forced myself into various molds and constraints. Only halfway through the journey did I realize that I was left with nothing but a blurred identity and a path from which there is no return.
18. Do not confuse desire with ideals. The end of desire is material possession, while the ultimate goal of an ideal is spiritual fulfillment. No matter how much you acquire, it will eventually leave you; no matter how tightly you grasp, you may end up empty-handed. We must learn to choose what can truly fill the void in our souls; learn to be easy-going and not fret over trivial matters; and learn to let go, for temptation is rarely an opportunity, and heavy burdens only hinder our progress.
19. We often think life is full of bitterness, but if you take the time to savor it, you will find that moments of sweetness and joy are everywhere; we feel our souls are endlessly weary because we amplify our desires and chase after things that do not belong to us or are unnecessary. By viewing life through a lens of simplicity, you will find less inexplicable worry; by measuring life with steps of happiness, you will walk with lightness and grace.
20. Many times, we live for others, forgetting that life belongs to ourselves and should not be lived solely for the gaze of others. Your smile may not always bring blessings, and your tears may not always find someone to wipe them away. Life requires moments to slow down and be still—to listen to the sound of blooming flowers and observe the elegance of unfolding leaves. Tell yourself: it is wonderful to be alive.
21. Furthermore, we must frequently reflect on our inner worlds. Maintain an optimistic and positive mindset, and do not be unsettled by the shifting winds of the external world. View gains and losses correctly; even if the external splendor collapses in an instant, the serenity and breadth within should remain unshaken, continuing to steer the course of your life!
22. Learn to maintain independence of character; do not depend too heavily on others. Do not turn yourself into a vine, for no one is a tree for you to cling to indefinitely; learn to defend your dignity and never cross your own principles, lest you fall into degradation; learn to protect the purity of your character so that your soul is not constantly subjected to moral questioning, which could lead you astray. Remember, when you smile, someone may join you, but when you weep, you must learn to face it alone.
23. In our youth and ignorance, we often mistook desire for love. In truth, the person who truly loves you will only appear when they understand responsibility. Sometimes, we should be grateful for the hardships life grants us, for it is often after experiencing pain that we truly understand the meaning of life.
