Time flows like water and never returns. Throughout history, all great achievers have treated time as precious as gold. As the ancient saying goes, "An inch of time is worth an inch of gold, but an inch of gold cannot buy an inch of time." Yesterday and today are similar, as are today and tomorrow. Seasons cycle endlessly, while our appearance changes with the years, from youth to old age. When we realize we haven't learned what we should, mastered what we must, or done what we ought to do, the past time is lost forever. What meaning is there in such a life?
Time is like a loan that even the most reliable borrower can never repay. However, time is most generous to those who are most stingy with it. Seize today, and rely as little as possible on tomorrow. "Do not idle away your time, lest your youthful hair turns white, only to end in sorrow!"
Without falling, one cannot know the hardships of the journey; without failure, one cannot taste the bitterness of pain. A life devoid of obstacles is not a perfect one.
Peace is happiness, contentment is blessing, a pure mind is prosperity, and few desires are longevity. In affairs, one need not seek merit; avoiding error is merit enough. In dealing with others, one need not demand gratitude; avoiding resentment is virtue enough. A person's mind: excessive desire narrows it, while few desires widen it. Better to live in clean poverty and joy than in murky wealth and worry. Avoid causing distress to others, and there will be no one to resent you. When thoughts run deep, know when to retreat; when success is at its peak, know when to rest. Do not exhaust your momentum, do not exhaust your fortune, do not take all the advantages, and do not use up all your cleverness.
