Guo Ziyi and Li Guangbi were both renowned generals during the Tang Dynasty. Due to past misunderstandings, they had harbored deep grudges and maintained a very strained relationship. Even when dining at the same table, they would barely acknowledge each other, let alone speak.
Later, when An Lushan launched a rebellion, the Emperor appointed Guo Ziyi as the Jiedushi (military governor) of Shuofang (present-day Ningxia), making Li Guangbi his subordinate. At that time, a Jiedushi held immense power, acting as both a military commander and an administrative head.
Li Guangbi grew anxious, fearing that Guo Ziyi would use this opportunity to seek personal revenge, and even considered fleeing in secret. To his surprise, Guo Ziyi strongly recommended him to the Emperor. Consequently, Li Guangbi was appointed as the Jiedushi of Hedong, and Guo Ziyi even assigned him ten thousand elite troops to lead on an eastern expedition.
Guo Ziyi's actions actually deepened Li Guangbi's suspicion; he thought that Guo Ziyi certainly wouldn't let him off this time. Gathering his courage, he approached Guo Ziyi and said, "No matter how you decide to deal with me in the future, I will have no complaints, as long as my family is spared."
Startled by this, Guo Ziyi quickly rose from his seat, embraced Li Guangbi, and said with tears in his eyes, "In this time of national crisis, we must work together with one heart and mind. We can no longer afford to be petty or dwell on past grievances."
Moved by Guo Ziyi's magnanimous spirit, Li Guangbi resolutely requested to go to battle. From then on, with the commanders and their troops united in purpose, they achieved great military feats in suppressing the rebellion.
郭子仪与李光弼皆为唐朝名将。由于往昔的一些误解，两人积怨已久，关系十分冷淡。即便同桌进餐，也往往互不理睬，更遑论交谈了。
后来，安禄山发动叛乱。皇帝命郭子仪担任朔方（今宁夏一带）节度使，李光弼则成为其部下。当时的节度使集战区司令与行政长官之权于一身，权力极其庞大。
李光弼心生顾虑，担忧郭子仪会借机公报私仇，甚至动了潜逃的念头。不料，郭子仪竟向皇帝极力举荐他，最终李光弼被任命为河东节度使。与此同时，郭子仪还分拨了一万精兵交由他统领，令其带兵东征。
郭子仪的这一举动，反而让李光弼产生了更大的疑虑，心想郭子仪这次定然不会放过自己。于是，他鼓起勇气找到郭子仪，坦言：“今后无论您如何处置我，我都绝无怨言，只求不连累妻小。”
郭子仪闻言大为吃惊，连忙起身紧紧拥抱李光弼，热泪盈眶地说道：“国家危急存亡之际，我们应当同心协力，绝不能再小肚鸡肠、斤斤计较了。”
李光弼感念郭子仪的宽广胸怀，随即毅然请战。此后，将帅上下同心，在平定叛乱的过程中立下了赫赫战功。
