A lion had captured a deer, its favorite meal, and was just about to enjoy it.
Several hyenas, drawn by the scent, began to circle around.
The largest hyena lowered its head and let out a provocative growl. Enraged, the lion let out a mighty roar and lunged at it, sending the hyenas fleeing in panic. Refusing to let them go, the lion gave chase. But after only a few steps, the lion heard the sound of eating amidst the rushing wind. Turning around, it saw three other hyenas feasting on its delicious meal, their filthy mouths digging into the deer's belly.
Furious, the lion turned to attack the scavengers. The hyenas scattered in all directions. The lion fixed its eyes on one of the larger hyenas, intent on killing it, but when it looked back, that largest hyena and two others were already devouring the deer.

Thus, caught between the need to protect its food and the desire to kill a hyena, the lion ran for a long time. By the time it was drenched in sweat, the beautiful deer had been eaten by the four hyenas until not even a single bone remained.
The hungry lion could only leave with its head bowed. For a hungry lion can never defeat four hyenas that have already eaten their fill.
