You don't have as many spectators as you think, so don't live so exhaustingly. The meaning of life lies in continuous striving; once you realize this, your life will never be meaningless. Do not dwell endlessly on a single problem, and do not place all your emotions on one person—you still have your parents and other friends. Many people mistake those who are unkind to them as enemies, but the greatest enemy in life is often ourselves. External enemies are easy to recognize and guard against, whereas understanding, comprehending, and controlling oneself is much more difficult. Even knowing that memories are a prison and time is like leaking sand, it is still difficult to let go of the past. Past clouds are brilliant but ultimately fleeting; a lifetime of glory is magnificent but eventually fades; a quiet life may be elegant but might go unremembered; a simple life may be ordinary, yet it encompasses everything life has to offer. Others may violate karma, even harm or slander us, but we must not hate them in return. We must preserve an intact nature and a pure heart. When interacting with others, ask yourself: what benefit can I bring to them? If we cannot use our moral character or spiritual cultivation to benefit others, it is as if we owe a debt. 事能知足心常惬,人到无求品自高。Often, we must admit that time passes like a white colt galloping through a crack—gone in a flash. It slips through our fingers like sand. As we walk along the shores of life, time leaves deep and shallow footprints behind us. Arriving in a new city with strangers and unfamiliarity, everything feels foreign. As time flows, a year has changed much, and the campus has become a warm, dependable home in this strange environment. Every trip is driven by the desire to return to that small dormitory, to that green, peaceful little place.
