Learn to be adaptable; do not strike stones with eggs, as the outcome is predictable. Such patience is not surrender or weakness, but a strategic retreat to find new opportunities. Yielding even when right is a wise way to conduct oneself. Had Wei Shu not listened to Zheng Xiu's "kind advice," she might not have met the tragic fate of being neglected by King Huai. Zheng Xiu managed to eliminate her rival and gain the King's favor by understanding Wei Shu's true desires and persuading her accordingly. While she appeared to be helping Wei Shu gain favor, she was actually undermining their relationship. Love cannot tolerate falsehood; if you deceive love, you will eventually be abandoned by it. Empathy allows us to walk more steadily and reach further. "Where did you learn such keen observation skills?" the clothing store owner asked her husband in amazement. Regardless of success or failure, those who embrace fate often encounter more surprises. Miracles like "pies falling from the sky" are anomalies; the norm is that nothing falls from the sky. To reap rewards, one must work hard and put in effort. Relying on unrealistic expectations leads to poverty, weakness, and a higher chance of failure. Zeng Guofan's advice on friendship: "Eight types to befriend, nine to avoid." The 'Eight to Befriend' are: those who surpass you; the virtuous; the interesting; those willing to suffer loss; the outspoken; those with broad ambitions; those who help in times of need; and those who empathize with others. The 'Nine to Avoid' are: those with different goals; flatterers; those who flip-flop on grievances; opportunists; those without character; those who are unfilial; the foolish; those who kick you when you are down; and the lacking in virtue.
