Gorky once said: "Honesty is the most beautiful virtue in life." This quote has stayed with me for a long time, and I hope to become a person who possesses such a character.
I remember when I was in the second grade, my cousin and I went to a toy store to buy some toys. Wow! The store was so crowded! My cousin and I squeezed through the crowd, and our clothes got wrinkled. But it was okay; we finally made it inside. Wow! A dazzling array of toys was displayed before our eyes, including spinning tops, toy cars, model airplanes, Rubik's cubes... We carefully selected and played with them. Perhaps because the store was crowded or the clerk was too busy, nobody noticed us. After choosing our toys, we happily left.
After a while, we suddenly realized we hadn't paid. "Eh? Did we just leave without paying?" "Oh, right!" my cousin snapped out of it and hesitantly said, "Anyway… nobody saw us… we… should just go home!" At that moment, my face flushed red, and two little ghosts appeared in my mind, arguing. One said: "We should go back and pay; 'integrity is like gold,' isn't that true?" The other replied: "No one saw us, and the clerk won't know we took the toys!" While I hesitated, integrity finally triumphed over greed: if I was dishonest, my cousin might learn dishonesty from me. No, I must set a good example for him and show that honesty cannot be bought with money. After some inner struggle, I took my cousin back to the toy store, paid for the toys, and apologized to the clerk, explaining the reason. The clerk did not scold us; instead, she praised us: "You are truly honest children!" Receiving her praise, we felt joyful inside.
On the journey of life, we will give up many things, but integrity is something we must never abandon. This experience taught me: "Integrity is a priceless treasure; to give it up is like losing half of your life." We must practice honesty at all times, making life more colorful!
