When we see others failing, we might secretly feel superior, thinking “I am smarter than them.” But Truly wise people observe why others fail and caution themselves to avoid the same mistakes.
Faced with a bowl of fruit, some good and some spoiled, how would you eat? Some start with the spoiled, ending up with nothing but bad fruit; others start with the good, enjoying half a bowl of good. Life sometimes requires understanding when to let go and when to choose.
People often have high expectations for close friends, assuming lifelong companionship. Yet, one day, paths diverge, and circumstances change. Connections may remain, but the best moments cannot be revisited. Losing someone is painful and often lingers in memory. We then tell ourselves: next time, do not give your heart so easily, to avoid hurt. But can we really do that?
Some opportunities are lost due to a moment's hesitation; some relationships slip away from a fleeting whim. Many estrangements and irretrievable feelings stem from a single thought; many expressions of gratitude remain unspoken, buried deep, becoming lifelong regrets. Therefore, when uncertain, ask yourself: will I regret this later? Strive today to leave no regrets for tomorrow.
Obsessive love may be a flaw, yet outsiders often praise it as determination or conviction. Many sympathize with the weak or failing and may approve or commend the obsessed, even if they do not fully agree. As the saying goes, “Sincerity can open even metal and stone,” the obsessed maintain their feelings in such an environment, possibly becoming trapped by their own woven love for life.
A calm mindset reflects life’s maturity. Words once freely spoken and deeds done without thought are now restrained deep within. Growing up brings understanding but also complexity. The more we fuss over life, the more troubles we face.
Socrates likened himself to a gadfly, whose duty was to constantly provoke people, awakening them to feel shame for a life focused solely on wealth and honor, neglecting wisdom and the soul. Self-reflection is the most timely and effective protection for the soul.
