Often, the choices made after calming down are the wisest, yet many people act while driven by emotion. Here, "emotion" refers to an unstable mental state that leads to unwise decisions. If one cannot escape being emotional, one must accept being an ordinary person.
In this day and age, wolves have all transformed into humans; where can one find a wolf? In this world, many possess the heart of a wolf while wearing a human face.
As people grow older, they tend to feel more lonely. With age comes a return to one's inner self. The distractions of the secular world fade, and one realizes that the essence of the human heart is loneliness. As the old saying goes, "The elderly become sentimental."
Aim high, sit in the middle, and walk on the wide path; make noble wishes, form moderate connections, and enjoy humble blessings. This profound philosophy advises us to be proactive without being calculating, and to be tolerant while being content with simplicity. Few in modern society achieve such a state. Zhuangzi spoke of a kind of person who possesses high character without striving, enjoys leisure without being in the mountains, and lives long without constant exercise; the path lies in "following the Way and nature." Liang Zhiyuan's ability to move from mere understanding to such a state of mind stems from his lack of defiance, pedantry, narrow-mindedness, or resentment.
Only in old age do we truly taste the flavor of life. To Luo Qingshui, the flavor of life is not fame or fortune, but rather doing what is right: divorcing when necessary, marrying when meant to, and finding value by doing small, helpful things for the people every day. To outsiders, a former businesswoman marrying a village girl and returning to the mountains to be a veterinarian might not seem like a "good life," but it is a meaningful one.
Great loss leads to great gain; without loss, there is no gain. Everyone understands this principle, yet many are deceived by the desire to buy luxury goods at a bargain.
The sage is not constrained by external things but moves in harmony with the times. This comes from the "Biography of Qu Yuan": "A sage is not stagnated by material things but can shift with the times." It advises us to keep pace with the changing world.
