Being overly stubborn and lacking the grace to accept others' opinions can lead to internal resentment when opinions clash, even if one appears calm on the surface. Life is like moving through thorns: if the mind is still, one does not act recklessly, and thus remains unharmed; but if the mind is disturbed and actions become reckless, one suffers physical and mental pain, experiencing the hardships of the world. Spiritual practice requires a heart of transcendence, responsibility, transformation, and harmony. Only the sages understand the emotions of all under heaven. Therefore, in the I Ching, the separation of hexagrams shows that when Qian is below and Kun is above, it signifies prosperity; when Qian is above and Kun is below, it signifies stagnation. This is reflected in the imagery: increasing the lower by decreasing the upper leads to growth, while decreasing the lower to benefit the upper leads to decline. As Qian is Heaven and Kun is Earth, if Heaven were below Earth, the order would be disrupted; thus, prosperity occurs through the interaction of Heaven and Earth. Conversely, when they do not interact, all things fail to thrive. Similarly, without the interaction of human feelings, all things fall into discord. When greed arises, one seeks excuses; when evil thoughts vanish, one ceases to do evil, and disasters naturally stay away. The world needs balance, society needs harmony, and the human heart needs peace. Things lost were never truly yours to begin with; there is no need for regret or pursuit. Adversity is an inevitable part of growth. Those who bravely understand and face adversity will see their lives flourish. Some people leave and never return, making waiting and hesitation the most ruthless killers in this world. Everyone seeks to fully understand those they interact with, yet there is always a distance between people, especially the vast distance between hearts. Gift-giving is a common practice in modern social interaction. While its intentions may be good, it should not be done without discretion.
