Once, a small country sent three identical golden statues as tribute to the Chinese Emperor. These statues were magnificent, much to the Emperor's delight. However, the envoys presented a challenge: which of the three statues was the most valuable? The Emperor consulted jewelers to inspect, weigh, and examine their craftsmanship, but they were all identical.
As the situation reached an impasse, an elderly statesman proposed a solution. He took three pieces of straw and inserted them into the ears of the statues. In the first statue, the straw passed through to the other ear. In the second, the straw fell out of the mouth. In the third, the straw disappeared into the stomach without a sound. The statesman declared: "The third statue is the most valuable!" The envoys were silenced, acknowledging the truth.
This story teaches us that the most valuable people are not necessarily the most talkative. We are gifted with two ears and one mouth so that we may listen more and speak less. The ability to listen is a fundamental quality of a mature individual.
There was once a pigeon that constantly moved homes to escape a persistent smell. It felt that no matter how long it stayed in a new nest, a suffocating odor would eventually appear. Seeking help from an experienced old pigeon, it was told: "Moving is futile, because the smell is not coming from the nest; it is coming from you."
This teaches us that if you feel out of place in a team, the issue may lie within yourself rather than the environment. Instead of constantly blaming your surroundings or others, one must practice deep self-reflection. Furthermore, leadership is not an innate talent but a skill that can be developed. True leadership is not about control and command, but about supporting and empowering employees to grow. In today's unpredictable competitive era, rather than solely chasing advanced management methods, companies should focus on the talent and passion of their employees. The only way to achieve this is to shift from controlling employees to believing in their potential and inspiring their passion.
