Today, the teacher placed three cups and some stones on the table: the first cup was filled with water, the second was half-filled with sand, and the third was empty.
The experiment began. The teacher dropped a large stone into the first cup. With a "plop," the stone sank, and water immediately overflowed from the cup.
Next, the teacher added more stones to the second cup one by one. He occasionally shook the cup to let the stones settle at the bottom, and gradually, a small mound of stones formed within.
Then, the teacher filled the third cup with stones and asked with a mysterious smile, "Can we still put things in here?" We chattered in response, some saying yes and others saying no. Without answering, the teacher took the cup containing sand, aimed it at the gaps between the stones, and carefully tilted and shook it. The sand slid into the cup like children on a slide. We were amazed to find that the cup, which appeared full of stones, could still hold so much sand!
The teacher then asked again, "Can we put anything else in now?" This time, we all answered in unison, "No!" The teacher remained silent. He took the first cup filled with water and poured it into the third cup filled with stones and sand. As the sand became wet, a significant amount of water was absorbed into the cup! It was truly incredible!
The teacher asked, "What are your thoughts on this experiment?" Xiao Wang raised his hand and said, "I think we shouldn't insult others. Insulting someone is like dropping stones into a cup of water—it causes the water of friendship to overflow. Even if we apologize, we can only remove the stones; we can never bring back the lost friendship. Harsh words may stay in someone's heart for a long time, perhaps even a lifetime."
Then, Xiao Gang stood up and said, "The third cup teaches me that learning is endless. Just as stones and sand fill the cup, we continuously acquire knowledge. Our minds are like containers that can hold vast amounts of information. We must never be complacent and must keep learning." Xiao Gang's speech was met with enthusiastic applause.
It turns out that even a simple cup can hold such profound life lessons!
