Offense and defense both serve the goal of victory. To focus solely on attacking without defending, or defending without attacking, is to separate two essential functions. Even if one studies military classics, victory will remain out of reach without understanding the synergy between offense and defense.

Water boils with great energy because of the heat and fuel beneath it. To stop the boiling, merely adding cold water is insufficient; one must eliminate the source of the heat.

Ultimately, whether a person is happy depends on themselves. Happiness might be the morning sunlight on your pillow, a partner's hand held tight while crossing the street, the breeze felt while riding on the back of an old bicycle, or a warm cup of coffee offered when you are feeling low.

Love is characterized by endurance, patience, and consideration. To love someone is to accept them entirely, including their flaws. People require encouragement and affirmation, as criticism and reproach often lead to counterproductive results.

In social interactions, actions are reciprocal. If you wish to know how others speak of you, observe how you speak of others.

Love is more stable when it is built upon understanding—first comes knowing, then comes loving.

Zen Master Xiujing once said, "The rain from heaven does not choose which tree to nourish; both lush and withered trees receive the rain."
