Just for today, I will try to live through this day only and not tackle all of life's problems at once. Some tasks might seem overwhelming if they required a lifetime of commitment, but I can manage them if they only last twelve hours.
Just for today, I will be happy. This embraces the wisdom of Abraham Lincoln: “Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be.”
Just for today, I will adjust myself to reality, rather than trying to bend everything to my own desires. I will accept life as it comes.
Just for today, I will strive to strengthen my mind. I will study and learn something useful. I will not be a mental loafer; instead, I will read things that require effort, thought, and concentration.
Just for today, I will exercise my soul in three ways. I will do a good deed without seeking recognition; if anyone finds out, it won't count. I will do at least two things I don't want to do, simply for the sake of discipline. I will not show when my feelings are hurt; they may be hurt, but I will not display it today.
Just for today, I will be agreeable. I will look my best, dress appropriately, speak softly, act courteously, criticize no one, and try not to regulate anyone but myself.
Just for today, I will have a plan. I may not follow it perfectly, but I will have one. I will protect myself from two pests: haste and indecision.
Just for today, I will have a quiet half hour all to myself to relax. During this time, I will try to gain a better perspective on my life.
Just for today, I will be unafraid. Especially, I will not be afraid to enjoy what is beautiful, and to believe that as I give to the world, so the world will give back to me.
