If we regard "achieving success" as the ultimate purpose of life, we should recognize that:
Some strive for fame and wealth, which is certainly not wrong; others advocate for a life of constant introspection and enlightenment, embracing a monastic lifestyle, which is also commendable; some seek continuous self-transcendence, overcoming scientific and natural obstacles through decisive action to find joy in adventure, which is also perfectly fine; and others believe that "Life is full of joy, so enjoy it while you can, let not the golden cup remain empty before the moon," seeking pure pleasure, which is also an acceptable path.
However, a flaw in our culture is the tendency to validate only one specific way of life as "successful," while dismissing all other paths as heterodox or misguided.
On an individual level, this stifles personal growth; on a societal level, it drains social energy and vitality. For example, when society promotes a singular set of values, lacking tolerance and foresight, it places immense psychological pressure on individuals because "being different" is perceived as being "wrong." Consequently, those who are naturally unique may face marginalization, criticism, or even direct harm.
The accumulation of intolerance and lack of freedom creates a restrictive society—one that cannot tolerate dissent or accept opposing views. It fosters an environment of self-righteousness and stubbornness, where there is a tendency to marginalize others and "trim" different perspectives. In such an environment, many people are left feeling lost and pained, as they are blinded to the truth and eventually lose their way.
