Learn to persist, but more importantly, learn to let go. As the ancients said, "To give is to receive; to let go is to gain." Clench your fists, and you have nothing; open your hands, and the world is within your grasp. From childhood, we are taught how to strive, how to persevere, and how to never give up. However, in many instances, what we truly need to learn is how to let go.
We feel weary because we waver between persistence and giving up, unable to decide. We feel confused because we tend to view things negatively, becoming stuck in our ways. We are unhappy not because we have too little, but because we desire too much. We suffer because our memory is too keen, clinging to both the essential and the trivial. In short, human troubles stem from: an inability to let go, an inability to think clearly, an inability to see through things, and an inability to forget.
