To avoid hurting others, the prerequisite is to hold no expectations of them, and conversely, to let them hold no expectations of you. The latter is more difficult, as it requires you to show your true self at certain moments, without any selfish concealment or pretense. Upon reflection, many Hardships and failures in life are merely discordant notes in the long song of the years.
