The Wisdom of Money: One million can buy a house and provide comfort; ten thousand might not buy a house, but it can buy a car for convenient travel; ten thousand might not buy a car, but it can buy a diamond ring to seal a lifetime commitment; one thousand might not buy a diamond ring, but it can buy a watch to master time; one hundred might not buy a watch, but it can buy books to enrich the mind; ten dollars might not buy books, but it can buy a bowl of noodles for sustenance; and a single dollar may not buy noodles, yet it can be given to a beggar as an act of compassion.
Only by possessing a heart detached from fame and wealth can one live freely and at ease. Finding joy and selfhood within a simple and plain life is a supreme state of being. With a detached mindset, we will not drift aimlessly in society chasing fame and profit; we will not experience extreme joy or sorrow over material gains and losses; and we will not fall into resentment, comparison, or jealousy. A detached mindset keeps one in a state of peace and grants a serene life.
The Wise are Tolerant. The wiser a person is, the broader their mind and tolerance. This is because they understand the world and human nature deeply, seeing things clearly and letting go easily. They have discovered the essence of dealing with people: Yielding a step is a form of excellence and a foundation for progress; being kind to others is a blessing and the basis of benefiting oneself. The Benevolent are Tolerant. Those filled with benevolence are naturally forgiving. As the saying goes, "Respect the elderly as one's own parents, and care for the young as one's own children," one should neither demand too much of oneself nor others. Therefore, compared to those who are petty and suspicious, tolerant people tend to have more social connections, more happiness, and naturally, a longer life. To be tolerant is to win hearts.
