What is life? Why do we live? What is the meaning of our existence? Life is like fireworks in the night sky, beautiful yet brief. We live to face the challenges of life and to experience those moments of happiness that may be short but truly precious. The meaning of life is often discovered when we go through the hardest or sweetest moments of our journey.
Courage is the sunshine of life; hope is the sunshine of life; love is also the sunshine within life. When people face setbacks and hardships, what they long for most is often a miracle. But when miracles do not appear, how should we respond? Some people choose to escape because they no longer want to endure the pain; some retreat because they cannot face the judgment of others; some avoid reality because they do not want to hear criticism and ridicule. Yet there are also people who see difficulties as challenges from fate and choose to confront them bravely. They believe in their own strength and eventually achieve success.
Nick was born with a rare condition that left him without limbs. He only had a small part of his body that helped him with daily activities. His disability once caused him to lose hope and even consider ending his life at the age of eight. However, he later used that same body part to accomplish many things that others thought were impossible. He learned to write, type on a computer, answer phones, throw a ball, and even swim. At the age of twenty-one, he earned a university degree and began traveling around the world to give speeches, sharing the resilience and strength of life.
Pain and setbacks are challenges that life brings us. Do not give up or run away simply because you encounter difficulties. “Instead of cursing the darkness, light a candle.” If miracles disappear, use your own courage, dreams, and hope to light another candle, open another window, and find a new path of your own.
