Last Thursday in PE class, we practiced the vault. The apparatus was about a meter high, covered in soft padding, with a springboard at the front and a thick sponge mat at the back. Although the teacher demonstrated the movement several times and explained the techniques, I felt a deep sense of fear looking at the "vault." Standing at the end of the line, I watched my classmates leap over it, feeling filled with resistance and dread.
During the practice, students had various reactions—some were excited while others were timid. However, most were able to sprint, push off, and clear the obstacle with ease. When it was my turn, my heart raced with anxiety. Paralyzed by the fear of falling, I stopped right in front of the vault. The teacher encouraged me to observe the others and try again.
On my second attempt, driven by a desire not to be laughed at, I ran toward the vault. But at the moment of takeoff, fear took over again. I failed to clear it and landed awkwardly on the vault, drawing laughter from the class. I felt deeply frustrated and dejected, even avoiding the classmates who had successfully jumped after class.
By the next PE class two days later, I still felt hopeless and would freeze every time I approached the vault. The teacher noticed and said firmly, "The height isn't the problem; the challenge is your courage. I believe you can do it!" Encouraged, I sprinted toward the vault once more. As my hands touched the apparatus, the teacher shouted, "Push!" With a powerful leap, I successfully cleared the vault. A surge of immense joy filled my heart.
Since then, my practice has become much smoother, and I can even tackle higher vaults. This experience taught me a profound lesson: With courage and persistence, failure is merely a stepping stone to success.
