All gains and losses, all reunions and partings in this world, are but a dream. Even knowing it is a dream, we remain immersed, unwilling to wake. Buddha says: everything follows fate. Yet, the one we deeply cherish can be lost with a single turn or a mere glance. If you do not look back, my far horizon becomes an unreachable shore.
The more one reads, the more one's countenance changes. We often think the books we have read have vanished like passing clouds, forgotten by memory, but they remain latent within our temperament, our speech, and our breadth of mind, manifesting through our lives and words.
People say one must find their other half in this world. I used to judge the relationships of others, saying that if a connection is destined through many lifetimes, missing it would bring regret for many more lives. But now I realize that was merely a way to teach us to cherish what we have.
That which remains unbridgeable even when there is no distance between two people might be loneliness. Loneliness maintains a distance between us and the world outside. Perhaps we are just similar, lonely souls.
Some say happy people are silent. Unable to understand, I asked a friend, who replied calmly: "Because happiness does not compare. If you compare yourself to others, you will only find your own situation desolate."
Flowers bloom in their time and fall in their time. There is no need for lingering; what must go will eventually go. There is no need for striving; what is meant to come will eventually arrive.
