High school military training took place during the 'Sanfu' period, the hottest time of the year. When I learned that we would undergo military training upon returning to school, I was utterly shocked.
I had spent a long summer vacation at home, living a very comfortable life. Hearing that I would have to endure the scorching sun suddenly filled me with despair.
Despite trying various ways to avoid it, nothing worked. With a sense of dread, I began my high school military training and recorded the experience in my diary.
My diary entries from that time were filled with fear. From the first to the fourth day, I constantly complained about the scorching sun, the intense glare, and the long hours of standing.
It wasn't until the fifth day that I wrote in my diary: "I seem to be gradually adapting."
However, before I could fully adapt, The parade on the sixth day knocked me down. According to my diary, our class was the last one in the marching formation, meaning we stood on the field longer than anyone else. Since I hadn't eaten breakfast, the prolonged standing caused me to faint. Looking back, even now, I feel a bit embarrassed by this memory.
Fortunately, the ending was rewarding. Our class achieved great results. Although I missed the parade, I felt a surge of pride while cheering for my classmates from the audience. At the very end of my military training diary, I drew a big smiley face. I think, at that time, I actually had fond memories of the training.
