He was born in an obscure small town in South Korea. Growing up in a poor family, his mother, a modest postal worker, had high hopes for him. He also had a younger sister.
However, he was a very unconfident person. During his elementary school years, he never even raised his hand to answer a question in class. Once, during a school swimming competition, he stood by the riverbank, trembling with fear, unable to take a single step forward.
When his mother heard about this, she was furious. Despite being physically weak following a recent surgery, she took her son to the riverbank and pointed at the rushing waters, saying, "Jump in." Terrified, he retreated, pleading, "I don't know how to swim, I'm afraid." His mother patted his shoulder and said patiently, "Child, you must understand that often, we fail because we are bound by our past experiences. I don't know how to swim either, but with courage and perseverance, I will succeed." With that, she took off her shoes and plunged into the water.
His heart raced with intense anxiety. One second, two seconds... five seconds later, the brave mother, after choking on water several times, miraculously surfaced.
"So, my child, what is your dream now?" his mother asked, walking back to him, drenched from head to toe.
