In Goethe's "Ballads," there is a profound story: once, Jesus was traveling with his disciple Peter. Along the way, they found a piece of scrap iron. Jesus asked Peter to pick it up, but Peter, being too lazy to bend down, pretended not to hear. Jesus said nothing, but bent down himself, picked up the iron, and exchanged it at a blacksmith's for a few coins, which he used to buy several cherries. As they left the city and walked into the vast wilderness, they found no people or water. Sensing that Peter was thirsty, Jesus deliberately dropped a cherry. Seeing this, Peter rushed to pick it up and eat it. As Jesus continued to drop cherries along the way, Peter was forced to bend down repeatedly in distress. Jesus smiled and said to him, "If you had bent down just once then, you wouldn't have had to bend down endlessly later. If you neglect the small things, you will find yourself struggling with much greater tasks."
People might laugh at this story, but in reality, there are many people in our lives just like Peter.
