Every adolescent, whether entering or already in the midst of puberty, experiences some form of emotional turbulence. It is enough to cloud wandering eyes and fill a sensitive, moist heart.
To me, "adolescence" remains a mysterious concept. Despite being frequently mentioned in textbooks, television, and the internet, it still felt foreign until I truly encountered it.
The night was cold, and the wind chimes tinkled softly. Facing my mother's constant nagging, I lost my temper. "Mom, aren't you being unreasonable? Do you have to control me even when I'm reading?" I slammed the door in frustration, tossed my book onto the bed, and curled up in the corner of the bed, weeping like a wounded animal.
As I calmed down, a thought crept in: Was I being too much?
I picked up the book with heartache, carefully smoothing out the crumpled corners. Fearing another lecture if I stepped out, I crept toward the door. My mother's room was closed, but I didn't hear her breathing. Instead, I overheard her whispering, "She's throwing another tantrum. I know children at this age can be temperamental... It's okay, I will try to understand her..." My heart sank with a sense of bitterness; I never realized how hard my mother was working to be patient and understanding with me.
Returning to my room, I pulled out the photo album. As I flipped through the pages documenting my growth, seeing my own smiling face in the old photos, tears welled up in my eyes. Thinking about the phone call she had just made to my father, I found myself walking toward her room again. After a moment of hesitation, I knocked softly and slipped a note under her door:
"Mom, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have lost my temper."
Youth is like capturing the essence and spirit of nature within a moment in time; its episodes are a blend of bitterness and sweetness. May the wind brush away the dust, may youth leave an indelible mark on our journey of memory, and may all troubles eventually dissolve into warmth. May every turbulent moment become one of life's most beautiful memories.
