When you are powerful, you may have many friends, but few are sincere; when you fall from grace, your circle shrinks, but the true friends remain.

Do not buy a car without spare parts, and do not befriend someone who lacks integrity.

Often, at parting, people deeply say, “Let us meet in the next life.” But where is the next life? If you truly care for someone, focus on their well-being in this life.

Love is often found in these ordinary moments: holding an umbrella to shield a lover from the rain, or lighting a lamp to illuminate their path home late at night.

Have a conscience, but never act immorally. Do not measure others’ futures by your own incompetence, nor weigh their present with your own sadness.

Human suffering often stems from pursuing the wrong things. Rather than blaming others for your pain, acknowledge that it may be a lack of self-cultivation. If you do not create trouble for yourself, others cannot give you trouble, for what burdens you is your own inability to let go. Always be grateful to those who bring you adversity. Only by knowing, taming, and changing yourself can you influence others. Every wound is a chance to mature.
