When a cup is full, even the finest tea must be finished before it can be refilled. When the mind is full, one becomes arrogant, conceited, and stubborn, leading to self-righteousness and even delusion. We should frequently remind ourselves whether it is time to clear our mental 'inventory.' Only by emptying the cup can we start anew. The Buddhist concept of 'letting go' and the economist's concept of 'forgetting sunk costs' are both encapsulated in this empty cup.
Whether something exists or not is fine; seek nothing excessively, but reject nothing blindly. Coming and going are natural processes, all as they should be. There is no need for excessive joy or profound sorrow; life is like a play, and the ebb and flow of connections is normal. Once you understand this, your heart remains unswayed, achieving a state of 'unmoving stillness.'
There is always an accident that turns into a habit, a habit that creates expectation, and an expectation that brings disappointment; yet, disappointment often births new expectations, prompting us to break old habits and turn them back into mere accidents. By understanding these cycles and refining our habits, we can break free from disappointment and embrace a more liberated self.
Do not be saddened when friends ignore you. Everyone has their own life, and no one can accompany you forever. The loneliness you feel is often not due to a lack of care from others, but because the person you care about has not shown you the care you desire.
To command through power is not true submission; only to persuade through reason leaves no room for argument. People are especially prone to losing their way and succumbing to authority once they gain power, often inadvertently creating enemies. One must realize that misusing power can lead to boundless transgressions; therefore, one must exercise caution.
If you become strong enough, others cannot refuse you; if you can command yourself, difficulties cannot obstruct you. Once you change yourself, you gain the power to change your world and your life.
