When paths differ, plans are not shared together. Those who attain attainment are straightforward and love righteousness; they observe words and look at colors, planning to keep below others. Unless one is eager to express, one is not enlightened; unless one is eager to speak, one is not helped. If giving one corner and one does not infer the other three, then I no longer instruct. Clever words, pleasing appearance, and excessive humility: Zuo Qiuming shames them, and I also shame them. If wealth could be attained, even as a whip-holder, I would do so. If it cannot be attained, I follow my preferences. After three days without reading books, one feels one's face is odious and one's speech bland.
