Bone, integrity, and harmony bring clarity of spirit; sincerity, a childlike heart, and enthusiasm promote physical and mental well-being. We need not constantly read people's moods, but we should learn to be considerate and understanding. Endurance may be painful, but its outcome is often sweet. Whenever the sun sets, I sit on the dilapidated dock by the river, gazing at the vast sky above New Jersey, feeling as if there is unexplored land ahead. All the roads, all the people, seem to be moving inconceivably toward the western coast. Only now do I realize that in Iowa, the young men were always restless and noisy because that land made them so uneasy. The beauty of time lies in its inevitable passage. Spring flowers, autumn moon, summer rain, winter snow—each has its own charm. If you bloom, the gentle breeze will come. Laziness goes with stupidity, diligence goes with success, despondency goes with failure, and perseverance goes with smoothness. Some words are best kept in the heart, and some pain is best forgotten silently. Often, many things change in what we thought was forever. Restraining speech cultivates qi, reducing affairs cultivates spirit, limiting thoughts cultivates essence, and suppressing desires cultivates the body. Acting calmly leaves a lingering flavor; living calmly extends one's years. If the spirit is not obscured, the body remains young. A friend is the fullness by your side, the number you can't help dialing, the cup of plain tea during long late nights, the familiar figure you miss most in idle moments, and the memorable concern during festivals. Lovers only see each other's flaws when their passion fades. If a person deceives even their own friends, they are destroying their own life. Remember, those who can be deceived by you are those who trusted you, and such trust, like the story of the boy who cried wolf, is not something that can happen many times. Do not expect everyone to like you; that is impossible. Being liked by most people is a sign of great success.
