The healthy growth of the spirit cannot be separated from the earth and the sky. The earth provides the source and material, while the sky indicates the goal and form. In comparison, the earth should be primary. Humans come from the dust and return to the dust; in essence, we are crops of the land. The earth is home, while the sky is merely a distant landscape. I even believe that the contemplation of the sky by philosophers throughout history—that so-called metaphysical concern—can find its silent resolution only in a return to the earth, within a sense of intimate unity with all things.
