An obscure young man won his first marathon championship and broke the world record.
After crossing the finish line, he was swarmed by reporters who kept asking, "How did you achieve such a remarkable result?" The young champion, panting heavily, replied: "Because, because there was a wolf behind me." Looking into the reporters' surprised and inquisitive eyes, he continued:
"Three years ago, I started training for long-distance running. The training base was surrounded by high mountains. Every day at 2 or 3 AM, my coach would wake me up to train among the ridges. Despite my best efforts, my progress was always slow."
"One early morning, while training, I suddenly heard the howling of a wolf behind me. It started as a few distant sounds, but quickly became urgent and close behind me. I knew I was being hunted, so I didn't even dare to look back; I ran for my life. That day, my performance was exceptional. Later, when the coach asked me the reason, I said I had heard a wolf. He said with deep meaning, 'It wasn't that you weren't capable, but that you lacked a wolf behind you.' I later learned that there was no wolf that morning; the sounds were made by my coach. Since then, I have always imagined a wolf chasing me during every session, which led to rapid improvement in my results. In today's race, I also imagined a wolf behind me. That is why I succeeded."
Sometimes, it is not our friends, but our enemies, who push us to the podium.
