Disliking someone usually has a reason, but liking someone often does not require any reason at all.
Life is often like this: without expectations, there will be no disappointment. When you stop clinging to certain obsessions and no longer long for emotional warmth, occasional heartache and tears become bearable. Since life is already full of melancholy, why insist on holding on? Gradually letting go makes everything feel insignificant, and accepting life as it comes is enough. Only after enduring many hardships can a person truly remain calm amid life’s storms.
Appropriate letting go brings ease; appropriate retention brings peace of mind. Let go of indifference and regret, let go of entanglement and imperfection, and release the restless desire for gain and loss. No matter how much you worry or struggle, nothing will truly change because of it.
Life is like a play—no matter how it is performed, it remains a play. One scene ends, another begins. The one watching is yourself, and the one performing is also yourself.
Do not think that pretension makes others unable to see through you, nor that falsehood prevents others from understanding you. Often, silence does not mean ignorance.
