What is life? Why do we live? What does living truly mean? Life is like fireworks in the night sky—brilliant yet fleeting. We live in order to face setbacks and to experience those brief yet profound moments of joy. The meaning of life is often understood in the moments of greatest suffering or greatest happiness in one’s journey.
Courage is the sunlight of life; hope is the sunlight of life; love is also the sunlight within life. When people face setbacks and hardship, what they most want to rely on is often miracles. But when miracles no longer arrive, how should we respond? Some retreat because they cannot bear it; some escape because they fear the eyes of others; others avoid ridicule and cold mockery. Yet some see it as a test from above and face it bravely; others rely on inner courage and ultimately succeed.
Nick Vujicic was born with a rare condition that left him without limbs, with only a small “chicken leg” to support his daily life. He once, at age eight, had thoughts of ending his life due to despair. Later, however, he used his limited body to accomplish many things others thought impossible. He learned to write, type on a computer, answer phones, throw balls, and even swim. At the age of twenty-one, he earned a university degree and began traveling around the world giving speeches, spreading the resilience of life.
Pain and setbacks are tests given by life. Do not give up or avoid them because of difficulties. “Rather than curse the darkness, light a candle.” When miracles disappear, use your own courage, dreams, and hope to light another candle, open another window, and find a new path.
