In the mountains, trees stand strong under the sunlight, while in the fields, fruits hang heavy on the vines. From deep red passion fruits to glistening large grapes, the sight is truly mouthwatering. Visiting Hongyuan Village in Peifeng Town, Longyan Economic Development Zone (High-tech Zone), one discovers that this former coal-producing area has been transformed into a vibrant agritainment paradise.
A Transformation Not By Chance
Jian Guangxing, a resident of Hongyuan Village, was once a 'coal boss' but has now successfully transitioned into a family farm owner.
"The shift from a 'coal boss' to an 'agri-boss' was not accidental. Mining carries high risks and causes severe environmental pollution," Jian reflected.
This shift in mindset stems from long-term awareness campaigns in the local area. Su Jiangfeng, the first secretary stationed in Hongyuan Village, noted that by using specific successful examples, they have guided more people to recognize the need for sustainable development and transition toward greener industries.
Following this change in perspective, and with government support, Jian invested over 2 million yuan to lease more than 10 mu of land to cultivate high-quality grapes and passion fruit. Within a few years, his farm expanded to 50 mu, and he now plans to develop leisure and sightseeing agriculture.
In addition to grapes and passion fruit, Jian has also successfully implemented multi-dimensional cultivation for lettuce. "Currently, the yield for grapes and passion fruit reaches over 1,500 kg per mu, with annual profits ranging from 300,000 to 400,000 yuan."
