Barényi became disabled due to illness in his childhood, which caused his mother immense pain. However, she struggled to suppress her grief, realizing that her child needed encouragement and support more than her tears. Approaching Barényi's bedside, she held his hands and said, "Child, I believe you are a person of great will. I hope you can use your own legs to walk bravely along life's path! Barényi, can you do that for me?"

Her words struck deep into Barényi's soul, and he burst into tears, throwing himself into his mother's arms.

From then on, whenever she was free, his mother would help him practice walking and performing exercises, often becoming drenched in sweat. Once, when she caught a severe cold, she believed that a mother should lead by example rather than just by words. Despite running a high fever, she still got out of bed to help him follow his training schedule. Sweat poured down her face like beads, but she simply wiped it with a dry towel and, gritting her teeth, ensured the day's exercises were completed.

Physical training helped mitigate the inconveniences caused by his disability, and his mother's example profoundly shaped him, empowering him to overcome the hardships of fate. He studied diligently, consistently ranking at the top of his class, and eventually gained admission to the University of Vienna's Faculty of Medicine with excellent grades. After graduation, he dedicated himself entirely to research in otoneurology, ultimately winning the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine.
