When the exclusive virtual yearbook known as 'TheFacebook' was first launched, some dismissed it as bizarre and useless. Unexpectedly, however, it became an immediate sensation. Within just a few weeks, more than half of Harvard's students had signed up, willingly sharing personal details such as their names, addresses, interests, and photos. Students utilized this free platform to keep up with friends, chat, and discover new acquaintances.
The platform quickly expanded to major universities across the United States, captivating young people throughout North America, including Canada. Today, it has also become a trend on campuses in countries like the UK and Australia. According to estimates from Yahoo, by 20xx, TheFacebook's registered users in the US will reach 52.5 million, with 60% of students and young people using the service—a massive increase from 8% in 20xx and 18% last year. Yahoo also predicts that by 20xx, TheFacebook's revenue could hit $1.86 billion, with advertising alone potentially generating as much as $1 billion.
