The "trash" I am referring to is the negative aspect of emotions—the kind that negatively impacts others. While venting can be necessary and even beneficial, a problem arises if expressing negative emotions becomes a constant habit, or if you find yourself unable to self-regulate without doing so. You might feel relieved after venting, but have you considered the effect on others? If your venting is filled with nothing but complaints and resentment, it is essentially emotional garbage to those around you. If you habitually dump negative emotions on others, your current friends will eventually drift away, and others will keep their distance. The consequences of having no friends are easy to imagine.
