When your mistakes are exposed, do not lose your temper. Do not assume that being willful or noisy can hide or overcome your flaws.
Learn to keep silent when you know, for excessive words often lead to mistakes. Learn to free yourself, for only through self-liberation can you achieve self-transcendence. Learn to think quietly alone, for this allows your mind to become clearer and more enlightened. Learn to observe the world with your heart, for only then can you see the true nature of things. Learn to let go, for only by letting go can you start anew. Sometimes, our choices yield no results, leaving us no choice but to depart in silence.
To possess simple happiness is all that is needed. No matter what the rest of the world says, I believe my own feelings are the correct ones. Regardless of how others perceive it, I will never disrupt my own rhythm. What we love can naturally be sustained, while what we dislike will never last long.
A disciple asked the Zen Master, "Master, how can one control emotions and not get angry when facing difficulties?" The Master replied, "Have deep faith in cause and effect, and confusion will not arise. All grudges and enmities are the result of cause and effect; without confusion, there is no anger. Getting angry is like drinking poison while hoping others will suffer." — Leave space in your heart; do not fill it completely with resentment. Anger is punishing yourself for others' mistakes, while tolerance is using others' achievements to motivate yourself.
A smile can dissolve much of the haste and unease in life. It can melt the coldness and helplessness hidden in the dust of memory. It allows every stir in life to bloom in full splendor. Smiling every day brings joy and peace to one's body and mind, and moves others with a momentary warmth.
