Insatiable thirst for knowledge drives progress, while knowing contentment brings happiness. Dissatisfaction with life leads to disappointment, and possessing without cherishing results in pain. Those who fail to appreciate their blessings eventually lose them. Without talent, seeking wealth is futile, and neglecting health in the pursuit of work invites regret.
Life is like the vast sea, and you and I are ships of friendship. Having navigated past storms, we will surely withstand future waves. We both believe, and this belief will never change.
Humans possess a soul. If one loses their soul, they become merely an empty shell, living a life that is boring and lacking in vigor. The “soul” is invisible and intangible, so one often remains unaware of having lost it.
Friends may not share blood ties, but they are connected by destiny. Friendship can be like bitter medicine that opens the heart. Even if we see through each other, we still cherish each other. Though we have two bodies, we share one heart. We may not ask much for ourselves, but we offer full support when a friend is in trouble. Though we cannot share the physical burdens of life together, our emotions are deeply connected. Even after the rain stops, the umbrella remains held up; even after long exposure to flowers, one does not let go until they wilt.
“If the mind has concerns, the world feels small; if the mind is free of concerns, even a single bed is spacious.” The difference between big and small arises from our mental calculations and distinctions. The size of the external world is not important; what matters is the size of our inner world. If the mind can transform the environment, it can turn a tiny prison into a vast universe as wide as the Dharma realm. Conversely, if the mind cannot transform the environment, one may feel empty, constrained, and unfree even while living in a large garden or villa. Therefore, instead of focusing on the quality of external circumstances, one should pay attention to the power, capacity, and tolerance of the heart.
