Respect is not merely sitting in rigid stillness, nor is it a state of being oblivious to what is heard, seen, or thought. True respect involves restraint in situations requiring caution, where one dares not indulge in reckless behavior. The body and mind become restrained, as if in awe. It is said: If a person can maintain this respect, the mind becomes clear and the principles of heaven become radiant. At that point, there is no need to force effort, for every action is naturally aligned with virtue.
