The olive tree once mocked the fig tree, saying that its leaves fell off in winter, leaving its branches bare and ugly, while it, the olive tree, remained green and beautiful all year round. Soon after, a heavy snowfall occurred. The olive tree, covered in lush green leaves, accumulated snow on its branches. Eventually, the weight was too much, causing the branches to snap and destroying its beauty. In contrast, the fig tree, having already shed its leaves, was simple and light. The snow passed through its branches and fell to the ground, allowing the tree to remain unharmed.
This story illustrates that external beauty, if not suited to the environment, can sometimes be a burden, even bringing trouble or disaster to survival. Conversely, A plain and ordinary way of life often leads to greater freedom and ease. Therefore, it is better to let go of the vanity of outward appearance, or of false status and position, and to earnestly experience a life that is authentic and simple. Believe that in such a life, you will find much more joy.
