An old man and his loyal dog passed away together in an accident and arrived at the gates of heaven. As they approached, an angel blocked their path. "I'm sorry, but heaven is quite crowded lately, so only one of you can enter," the angel said, pointing to a tree-lined avenue. "The road leads to the entrance of heaven. I suggest a race: whoever reaches the entrance first enters heaven, and the other goes to hell." The old man frowned and complained, "But my dog doesn't understand heaven or hell! Why can't I decide?" The angel replied, "No, in God's eyes, all lives are equal, so a race is only fair." The angel thought the man was being selfish. Then, the man commanded his dog, "Stay right here, don't move!" He began walking slowly toward the entrance. The angel, feeling anxious, urged the dog to catch up, but the dog only looked up with pure eyes, as if to say, "I must obey my master." The angel sighed, wondering why God had such strange rules. Just as the man was about to step through the gates, he suddenly stopped, turned, and shouted, "Come here!" The excited dog rushed forward with such momentum that he burst into heaven. The man smiled, "Great! Now my dog can enter heaven too!" When the angel asked why, the man explained, "My dog is so loyal that he always insists on walking behind me. The only way to let him enter heaven before me is to make him excited enough to overtake me!" Moved, the angel decided to let them both enter. At that moment, God appeared and told the angel, "This teaches us to observe things until the very end."
Russian writer Goncharov once said that Wisdom lies in applying observation and experience harmoniously to life. Many misunderstandings between people arise because we assume our speculations are facts before seeing the whole picture. For instance, an old woman once found her savings missing and immediately suspected her son, who was unemployed and had a history of misconduct. Despite his denials, her suspicion drove him away. Years later, she discovered she had simply misplaced the money. Sadly, her son had already passed away in a shelter. A little more patience and understanding could have prevented this tragedy. Many life's regrets stem from misunderstandings that can cost us friendships or cause lifelong sorrow. Therefore, we must learn to observe until the end to see the truth.
